My husband had been treated at this hospital for nearly three years now. Testament to the care and treatment from all staff he is still around today. Not easy when staff are under pressure with cutbacks bed shortages etc. Keep up the good work.

I brought my autistic daughter to an ENT appointment where she had to wait longer than she could cope with, hospitals are a scary and overwhelming place for a child with autism . I found one admin staff member rude & very unhelpful when i explained my case. Previous to this appointment I requested that my child be given an appointment first thing so waiting time would be short, did not happen. Seems to me that more than one patient is given the same time for an appointment. My child was very distressed when she got seen to & then I was asked ' what is wrong with her, why is she so distressed?' -read her file. A very stressful & unsuccessful visit for a young child with special needs . Feel it was a waste of time & more thought needs to be given to the appointment system & the needs of the patient especially children with special needs.

Staff do a good job in c**p conditions. Bed closures and money saving practices hurt patients by causing delays.

I had a stress test on Friday morning-afterwards a doctor came to me and said it was not good and said he would have to talk to his boss but nothing more was said to me until Monday leaving me worried for the whole weekend.

I feel that the staff are only there for their wage at the end of the month, patient care is the last thing on their mind.

Was in for a week - told by one consultant I was to have a procedure done (hence the stay), however a second consultant who I saw after 6 days said that the procedure was not to be done, (that consultant had actually read my notes and as there were many factors for my condition, it was not necessary to have the procedure done). I was discharged that day. What a waste of hospital resources

My mother was admitted to Letterkenny recently in medical 1. I have to admit that throughout her stay she received the utmost care and attention which could be expected. Although I felt that particular things could have been explained more to her.

My mother was admitted to LGH on a sunday to thursday. Not once was she assisted in personnel care. She also maintains that she did not receive any of her daily medication apart from her nebuliser since she was admitted. She was transferred to Sligo General Hospital on the thursday night and was assisted with a lovely shower. She found a very different and positive atmosphere in Sligo compared to Letterkenny.

Disgusted with the attitude of a couple of doctors that treated a relation. A doctor turned to her and keeping his head down, looking at a piece of paper said to her: " You have CANCER AND IT'S TERMINAL." The nurse told her afterwords that she was supposed to have a nurse of a member of family with her when being told she is dying.

I attended LK hospital as an emergency admission, my wife took care of the admission details (no privacy whatsoever in AE) Physically the AE is a disgrace, although a new one is being built - The staff, however, were more than good. I was admitted to a surgical ward in less than an hour but was in high dependency the next day after my conditioned worsened. I was eventually transferred to another hospital, but I have to say that the care I received in LK was excellent and my experience certainly did not match some of the comments posted on this board.

We had to go to A&E had a broken leg waited 4 hrs to be seen and 16hrs before we got a bed-the toilets in A&E are really dirty as is the hospital in general. I did'nt get mrsa but my daughter did and her baby a few months back-it was a nightmare!! I don't blame the staff, they can only do so much with the funding given.

I feel that as a private patient it would have been better if the consultant could have shown a little more consideration and spend some time explaining without making me feel like a burden. Actually all patients deserve to feel like they are treated like a human being.

We had to wait up to 9 hours to be seen at the A&E dept in Letterkenny General Hospital. There was blood on the wall not to mention the dirt on the doors and the ceiling. The toilet was not even cleaned since 2.30 it was disgusting. No privacy at all when giving your details the vending machine would take your money alright . It is no wonder that there is MRSA in Letterkenny hospital.

Was in hospital with suspected swine flu. I was in an isolation ward. Mostly no one came near me. For 2 days I was not offered any food not even a cup of tea, in the end I had to ask for tea and toast.

Had our baby girl here. Staff were really friendly. The Midwife in the labour suite was the best person ever !!! She was so nice and talked to me a lot ! She calmed me down and explained everything i needed to know. Unfortunately, by the time our daughter had arrived, the midwife had gone, and I didnt even get a photo, her name(wish I knew) or even say thank you to her. So Thank you !!!

Letterkenny General Hospital treats the elderly patients dreadfully. My 72 year old mother had to travel a 52 mile round trip to make sure my dad ate. Food is placed in front of the patient, many who, like my dad, need help eating and left there. Mum fed dad all his meals. Dad fell out of bed and another patient informed mum of this, not the hospital. A patient was calling for help one day I was there as he had been left on the commode. I went to the nurses station when none had appeared. There were 2 there and I could hear the man from the station. It was only when I asked that they help the patient that one went to him!!

Care and kindness shown by both nursing and other staff was second to none. Although severely under pressure due to cutbacks, the manner in which they cared for the patients was top class. It is a disgrace that a ward was due to close with a number of staff going when during my stay of 2 weeks, all staff were under pressure with full wards. The staff should be complimented and treasured - not let go due to financial crisis!!

Have been with VHI for over 15 years-thinking of getting out of the private care -7 the private rooms are a joke and the VHI should take the responsibilty, for it, because after all it is them I pay my money to.

I overall found the care in lk general to be of a high standard and one in which every member of staff acted in a manner of respect and love for their work. The only downside was the parking rather expensive.

I am taking part in this survey on behalf of my aunt who is 101 because I have never before witnessed a so called caring profession contradict everything it is supposed to stand for. My aunt was left for practically two days without food because she was awaiting surgery (she didn't get to theatre on the first day but it was after 4pm before she was told this). As her next of kin I had requested a meeting with a doctor to discuss her condition but my aunt was discharged without my request being granted. On the day of her discharge, no nurse came to help my aunt get dressed despite her have a dressing on her face and despite my aunt's advanced years. I was left to dress her by myself. Nor was there anyone to talk to us about after-care despite the fact that my aunt had a cancerous lesion removed from her face and a skin graft. I have not one, single, good comment to make about Letterkenny hospital other than the car park attendants were extremely helpful and kind.

I attend LGH a few times each year, and find all the staff excellent. In general, there are some improvements needed, mistakes happen, but, in my opinion, the many negative commentators should wise up - too much me-me-me attitude, selfish, arrogant. If doctors and nurses could make comment on patients' attitudes in a site like this I'm sure we'd be shocked.

Exemplary service from the Radiology and Orthopaedic services, world class in poor surroundings. Emergency staff continue to work wonders in atrocious conditions under unbearable pressures with fewer ward beds available on a daily basis and the results of cuts apparent everywhere. Nobody seems to have noticed the HSE closed a whole ward there so when you need a bed there are 20 no longer available. Bigger workload, smaller number hospital beds to go to, go figure.

I think it is a disgrace that patients who are attending the hospital for appointments have to pay for parking, especially considering that the money is benefiting a privately run company and not the local hospital.

My sheep get better health care than is available in modern Ireland. God help the poor people who have to work in health care they must be off their trolleys with despair, no wonder the patients suffer.

Room for improvement (1) the A&E waiting room in Letterkenny (new one being built) is very small, patients of all ages and conditions are left there for long periods with no staff checking how they are or explaining where they were in the queue. We were there from 1am to 4:30 am. One elderly lady waiting 10 hours for a bed with only one cup of tea. The vending machines are not accessible from A&E (!) (2) One member of staff came to clean the A&E but did not clean under the chairs, when pointed out she said she would come back later to finish, I am sure I saw her asleep on a couch near X-ray. Surely, her duties could be extended to make sure that people with patients (often elderly themselves) at least have access to tea & coffee and that the waiting room itself is kept clean. (3) Another young man was there 8 hours to find that an x-ray of hand was not needed. His mother made a complaint that the triage nurse should have had the authority to discharge him 8 hours previous or else a competent person who can make that decision should be put in charge of triage. All of the above can be improved by changes to systems of work and do not necessarily need more cash - in my opinion.
