Great medical facility. Please do not lose your level of kindness and care. Only thing I feel is that I really needed a longer inpatient stay. One night was not sufficient for me after the surgery I had. I was in a lot of pain and felt unwell on discharge. I really would have benefited from some more time with physiotherapy.

I personally feel that a one night stay for the surgery I had was not sufficient for me as I left the hospital in pain and feeling physically unwell and weak. A week later I still have a lot of pain.

Am awaiting a partial thyroidectomy under the care of Prof Kerrin. Met him and his nurse specialist and they were both extremely professional and I was well educated regarding upcoming procedure etc...Prof is amazing.

From start to finish, the care my daughter received was outstanding. All staff were professional and at no time gave the impression their time was limited, answered all questions and worries with great confidence and care, which made my daughter's time in hospital go very smoothly.

I was admitted for a procedure and was not dealt with in a professional manner and I personally feel it did hinder my calmness beforehand. I was brought in at 7am, showed to my room, got a couple of questionnaires done and was then left for hours. One doctor came in and said I could drink some water because it would be a few hours until my surgery. I asked a nurse to may be get me some or tell me where to get some. She said she would get it for me and I then saw her get in her car and drive away. By the time I saw another member of staff my window for a drink was closed. Then the nurse supposed to be looking after me spent all morning on the phone ringing around about a procedure she felt she needed done on herself. I was required to get a CT scan done before my surgery at 1pm however come 1pm, no member of staff had come to see me in hours. Finally they received a call which I can only assume was from the consultant asking if the CT scan had been performed and then all of a sudden I was rushed off to be scanned. I was left out waiting for nearly an hour in my gown around people just in for scans and I felt humiliated. Then as soon as I got out of the CT scanner, a nurse was waiting at the door to take me to theatre. I didn't have time to use the bathroom, speak to my mum, have a minute to take a breath and I was so nervous all of a sudden because everything was happening in 10 mins after leaving me for 6 to 7 hours doing nothing. When I woke up I was in excrutiating pain and no one could get it under control. My doctor had left for the day and the nurses got a doctor down finally to administer some pain relief and they asked if he could wait five minutes to see if it would ease my pain or if he would have to give me more. He replied 'I have to look after everyone' and walked off. Needless to say I was shocked. This is the first major surgery I've ever had and I was scared and treated like a cow at the mart. After surgery the nurses that took care of me were outstanding, they deserve a pay rise for how well they looked after me. If I had had that from the beginning I believe I would have been in a much better mental state. When I was leaving however I had requested to see my consultant to find out what happened in the surgery and what about pain medication etc... I waited and waited and just as I was being wheeled out the door he arrives said everything went well and left. I then came back a week later for follow-up and the consultant said he wanted to see me so again. I was left waiting for over an hour for him to come up look at the wound, say ok, and leave. I have been left terrified that I have not healed and I'm still in pain. Again the nurses after my surgery were fantastic the nurses before made me feel completely alone abandoned and forgotten about. The consultant has left me feeling completely petrified, confused, alone and having very little options. I have found this process difficult.

My experience was awful and would take an essay to describe the poor level of care I experienced. No point complaining either as my letter and suggestions went without answer.

Hopefully I will not have to go again, but if I do I will insist on going to the Bons in Galway. I was treated like a very special person at all times, which in these times in Ireland is a rarity.

I have now undergone three surgical procedures in this hospital and would absolutely recommend it and its staff to everyone I know (and I have done so on several occasions!).

I attended this hospital for a day care procedure. There was little if any heating while waiting for four hours in the day room before surgery. When I reached the operating theatre, I was very cold. A nurse used a hose to pump hot air to heat me and the trolley. After anesthetic and surgery, which took 90 minutes, I was placed in a room with no heating and my medical chart could not be found. I filled in the patient card with comments and gave it to a member of the nursing staff on my discharge that night. The consultant contacted me the next day about separate matters however no other explanations from the hospital. A number of elderly patients were in the same day ward on that day. Is this best practice?

Having a chronic illness unfortunately I must attend the hospital regularly. The atmosphere has changed dramatically. Nursing staff are extremely over-stretched and stressed. The so called 'restaurant' only serves tea, no food!

Staff nurse Sally and care assistant Teresa, both so professional in their work, very kind and welcoming, even though they were very busy. They do an excellent job, nurse in CT scan also very kind and informative. Well done to all staff in daycare.

Recently was sent to a the Bons Galway with my child for a consultation and blood tests. Was never told on initinal contact with consultant's secretary AFTER I asked her that I would have to pay €60 for the blood tests on top of the consultation fee. I was under the impression it was all included in the price. Why not include the fees charged on the appointment letter!!?? Consultant didn't even bother to ring me with the results! No contact or follow up with me the parent. My child was just referred on to another consultant. Very unprofessional considering I paid so much money . A phone call from the consultant to follow up would be the least I would expect considering I paid so much! still ended up forking out more money for the same tests somewhere else! Won't be returning any time soon. An expensive trip and one very annoyed mother!

I think this hospital would benefit greatly if they put in a different system for pain management after surgery. My experience during a recent spinal surgery in the area of pain mgt was not positive. l subsequently learned that the relevant meds had been written up however the nursing staff during the day could not see that l was in continuous pain. l eventually had to suggest what meds might work after l totally lost my temper with one of the staff re my pain. The overall pain mgt in my case was unsatisfactory. l had had a similar procedure in the Blackrock clinic and their pain mgt system was exemplary. Also health and safety needs a little review here. The day l was going home l was facilitated in having a shower and having assured myself that the nurse would assist me as l was still on assisted walking l proceeded. However the nurse left to go and get something and did not return until l had to get out of the shower on my own. Wet floors are a high risk following spinal surgery and a patient on crutches.

I was very impressed with the high standard of care I received during a recent admission. From the admissions clerical staff, ward staff, theatre staff, consultant and anaesthetist the staff were professional and kind . Everything was explained and it made for a positive hospital experience.

Every one of the staff from cleaning all the way up to the consultants at the hospital are very professional and caring. You really do get the best treatment. I have being here on two different occasions, and some family members also have being here. It is always the same. I really cannot fault them.

The staff were brilliant, you never minded asking for their help or ringing the bell, which was always answered promptly. They also seemed very happy in their working environment. The bathrooms were spotlessly clean. The carers and anciliary staff were also excellent, very friendly and always with smiles on their faces. A very pleasant experience.
