Care I received while I was a patient in Roscommon Co. Hospital was superb. Spotlessly clean with very dedicated staff of all grades. The facilities were only top class. Other Hospitals could learn a lot from the way this hospital is run.

Roscommon hospital is pathetic!!! My mother was a very ill woman who fought long illness with great courage and dignity....she was treated like a dog in roscommon hospital on numerous occasions. The nurses were rude, ignorant and incompenant towards my mother and my family. Hospital is FILTHY, doctors were pathetic. One doctor believed my mother was fine despite the fact she was dying! My mother's bed was needed so it was arranged for my mother to be removed to a nursing home and nurses never contacted my family to tell me that my mother had being transferred at the time to the nursing home....!!! i would rather die on the side of the road before i ever go in mile distance of the hospital again! My mum passed away in 2008 RIP

Since my last visit things have got even worse. St Coman's ward should be closed-it is not up to standard.

The reception staff at A&E were very rude and did not write my name down and left me sitting in A&E when I should have been in the medical assessment unit. I was left sitting 4 hours until I finally went up to the desk and was told that the receptionist that morning did not write my name down that I was there.

Overall I was very happy with the level of care I received in Roscommon. But, one thing I was surprised and unhappy about was that I was not automatically offered a follow up outpatients appointment on leaving. I only received after I had to return a few days later with a small reaction to my new medication. I actually had 3 follow on appointments to check progress after this thanks to my insistence and my doctors initiative. This would not have happened if I had never gone back with the small complication in the first place.

A hospital from the dark ages, dirt and infection everywhere, the 4 beds in icu is like an open ward-no separation, just dirty curtains with cobwebs on the ceilings. Some staff need refresher training in manners and decorum and are unable to relate in a proper confidental manner to relatives rather than shouting your diagnostic illness at you from a distance . Some consultants were approachable.

A poor hospital, little or no infection control, many doctors have very poor English. Don't get sick at the weekends as nothing appears to happen , many tests have to be sent to Galway where valuable time is lost on reporting and the patient is still suffering days later with no proper diagnosis. St Coman's ward is filthy, with belongings from discharged patients still left in bedside lockers.

My overall impression is that staff, in general, have little or no regard for the patient.

My mother was admitted to a nursing home and was from time to time treated in Roscommon Hospital. The care she received in the Nursing home was awful in the extreme and the staff there are living in the dark ages. While the treatment in the main hospital was slightly better it still leaves a lot to be desired. The HSE should be ashamed of the facilities they provide in the nursing home and also need to improve the County hospital

Again the care I received while in Coronary Care was second to none, the sheer dedication and experience shown to me while I was in there for a week all over Christmas was just great. Words really fail me of how grateful I am to all of them. I must mention two nurses in particular, Betty and Marie, who were on duty all day Saturday the 26th Dec 08. They were just outstanding in the way they looked after me.

Having recently visited this hospital, firstly I was appalled at the level of infection within its walls. MRSA seems to be absolutely rampant, every other door in the corridors had signs on them regarding infection. If you have an elderly relative as an inpatient that needs assistance, I would suggest you be present at meal times if they are to get anything to eat. Other than that you may have a young girl who has no experience in relating to older people or else not caring if they eat or not. The nursing staff were very good and helpful under the appalling conditions they work in. It's like something in a third would country. I certainly would not wish my experience of this hospital on anyone maybe its time Mary Harney spent a night or two in this hospital to experience what others go through. It's one of the most appalling places I have ever visited, God help the people of Roscommon.

I find the foreign doctors slow and impossible to understand, went in to have an x-ray done on a hand injury that was work related, had the x-ray but couldnt get results there so requested to have x-rays read before going home as I needed to know what to tell the boss and if fit to go back to work. I was told we would have to sit til aftr 2pm til doctors come back. We sat and sat for 4 hours afraid to even go get some lunch in case of missing our call. People appeared to go before us,than we got called only to be nearly sent for another x-ray as the foreign doctor wasn't aware that we had the x-ray done and been seen by a nurse who wrote the details down. I was fuming, only then did he go find the x-rays but I wasn't clear on what I should or shouldn't do when I got home. He gave me a near date for trauma clinic than changed his mind and pushed the date out further. I thought this to be odd given that he wasn't sure if it was definitely fractured or not. Doctors need to be more specific and speak clear english, its not fair on patients.

Although i was a private patient i was moved bed three times during a 9 day stay in the hospital, public ward to semi private ward and this was a bit chaotic. The wards were clean but untidy with boxes and trolleys in the corridors.

With a couple of exceptions, care and attitude from nursing staff was very poor. Food appalling and if patient was unable to feed themselves they starved. Patient left hospital in a worse condition than she entered.

My stay on the surgical ward was quite an ordeal. I wasn't very happy. Some of the nursing staff had attitudes that made me feel very uncomfortable at times. The ward was filthy, the floors never swept for 3 days, the build up of dirt was inches thick. Why is it that my experience on the medical ward was so different? The A&E dept, the staff were pleasant but the time it took to do anything was hours which was very frustrating.Over all I would not go back to the surgical dept but have no problem with the medical in fact I can't believe it's the same hospital!!!
